ITLP Intern – Becton Dickinson
For the summer of 2017, I had a chance to be a part of the ITLP(Information Technology Leadership Program) program at BD. Becton Dickinson is a medical technology company that manufactures and sells medical devices and instrument systems. I was fortunate enough to be a part of a well-established program at a leading corporation in its industry. Gaining invaluable experience and insight from classes, forums, town halls, and my work.
I had the opportunity to be a part of BD’s Global Information Security team. Working in the Identity and Access Management space, I drove the proof-of-concept(POC) for a new tool that was going to be implemented through out the organization. There were three key phases to my internship which included data gathering, local installation of the tool, and running the access certification POC.
During the first phase, I learned PowerShell and wrote simple scripts to pull data from Active Directory(AD). Next working with consultants from Deloitte I installed the tool onto a local computer. Then configured it for one of its capabilities of Access Certification. Lastly, run the access certification campaign on the owners of selected high-value target AD groups. One of my key takes came from running the access certification campaign and presenting to stakeholders of different levels in both business and IT. From presenting and giving a hands-on demo our tool to managers, directors, and the CISSO I was able to better my ability to tailor my content to my audience.
