Cigna TECDP Summer Internship

Cigna is a global health services firm with over 40,000 employees world-wide. Their headquarters is in Bloomfield, Connecticut, while their second-largest office is located in Philadelphia, which is where I spent my summer. I worked an intern as part of the Technology Early Career Development Program.

I was placed on a service quality reporting team. Service quality reporting is a very important IT function – by quantifying the volume of incidents and requests received and analyzing how efficiently they are addressed, IT leaders can make decisions that improve performance. In addition to monitoring service quality, my team also played a role in tracking the performance of project teams compared to their goals and budgets. Analyzing these metrics has a lot of business value as well.

The team I worked on is comprised of developers and analysts – I mainly shadowed and assisted the analysts. I contributed to gathering requirements for future releases, mocking-up potential solutions and data views, and testing enhancements prior to release. I enjoyed the work, and hope to continue to work on the analysis side of app development in the future.

Outside of roll work, I took advantage of many other opportunities that Cigna provided to us interns. I attended trainings hosted by full time associates, listened to senior leaders speak about their past experiences, and attended community service events throughout the Philadelphia area. I learned so much, and really did enjoy my time at Cigna.
