Data and Value
Cristina Alaimo, Jannis Kallinikos, and Aleksi Aaltonen
We discuss how the characteristics of digital data shape data-based value creation in the digital economy. Using various examples, we show how data-based innovation cannot be understood as recombination of modular components alone but instead needs to address the issues of cognition and sensemaking in that the use of data always involves. We outline an idea of a data value chain and argue that a key resource used in the digital economy is a sign.
