About Me

Background

I grew up a native of the Philadelphia area with my family moving a few times before settling in Abington, Pennsylvania where I went on to attend Abington Senior High School. From high school I received and accepted a scholarship to attend Rochester Institute of Technology and major in Finance at the Saunders College of Business.

During the fall semester of my freshman year I suffered a torn labrum and rotator  cuff while playing for the RIT rugby team . This forced me to return home to Philadelphia for surgery where I decided it was in my best interest to not return to RIT in the spring . I spent my spring semester at Montgomery County Community College so I could continue to advance my collegiate career while also undergoing physical therapy for my shoulder.

While at community college I made the decision to transfer to Temple University so I could attend the highly touted Fox School of Business. Since arriving at Temple I changed my major to Management Information Systems as I felt it was a degree that was better connected with my interests in technology and analytics.

Interests

What will forever be my greatest interest is athletics , highlighted by my passion for sports and weightlifting. I’ve been in love with sports ever since I was a child , especially contact sports such as football and hockey. When I was younger my passion was mostly contained to playing the sports but as I grew older my passion expanded to sports fandom , especially when it came to Philadelphia sports teams .

This love for sports actually led to me developing an interest in data and analytics.  I was fascinated by the amount of data collected for different sports and how it was used to compare teams or players. In recent years this interest has only grown as teams across the sports world began adopting the use of advanced statistics,  with the NHL even partnering with SAP to provide “Enhanced Statistics” on it’s website for fans to explore.

Another one of my core interests is technology. While my older sister being involved in computer science and eventually getting a masters in Computer Security definitely played a role in the growth of my technology interests , the interest stemmed from my amazement of computers and similar technology. Learning about all of the different ways people were currently using technology as well as the seemingly endless possibilities for technological innovation was mind blowing to me and cemented my desire to learn more about the inner-workings and advancement of technology.

Temple Coursework

The courses I’ve taken Temple cover a broad spectrum of knowledge I’ll need to succeed in the business world, including a class called Mosiacs where I was challenged to think critically and view topics from varying perspectives in order to get a more in depth understanding of social issues. I also took multiple business oriented statistics classes including a class I am currently taking in which I’m learning about advanced statistics and the associated business applications.

I took a class centered in human resource management where I learned the importance of communication and having good managers in the workplace as well as what I would need to become a good manager myself someday.  I am currently enrolled in a business ethics course so that I’m prepared to handle any ethical dilemmas or ethics related decisions I am exposed to in the business world.

My most involved courses are the two MIS courses I am currently taking which are Data Analytics and Data-centric Application Development. In my Data Analytics class I have learned about the importance of data in the business world as well as how companies go about collecting, analyzing and utilizing data. I have learned various material such as analyzing data using Excel, creating and managing and SQL database,  data storage and organization, as well as advanced analytics using R and R-studio. In my Data-centric Application Development class I’ve learned about writing HTML, CSS and PHP . I’ve also learned how to integrate them with each other and SQL to create web applications that can be used to add, remove, and alter information in a database.
