Sirena Ristorante

During the summer after my freshman year at Temple University, I worked as a hostess at Sirena Ristorante, a casual restaurant and bar located on Pier Village Beach in Long Branch, New Jersey. The restaurant becomes a popular spot to hang out in the summer where people enjoy dining outside alongside the beach. As a hostess, I accepted telephone reservations, greeted customers, and escorted customers to their tables in a friendly, prompt, and courteous manner. I also checked coats and accessories to the coat check, made sure the foyer and hostess desk was organized, and managed server sections and guest-to-server ratios in order to establish a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. This part-time position improved my ability to multi-task, taught me how to handle stressful situations, and showed me how the food industry operates.

Hollister Co. is an American lifestyle brand that targets consumers ages 14 to 18. This retail store carries casual apparel, accessories, and fragrances for teenage boys and girls that emanate the relaxing lifestyle of living on the beach in California. I worked as a model at the Freehold Mall location in Freehold, New Jersey for over one and a half years. As a model, I greeted customers at the front door,  informed customers on current sales, and helped customers locate merchandise based on their needs and desires. I also worked as a cashier, managed inventory of store merchandise, and while working on the floor, I closely observed customers to avoid loss prevention. After working in retail, it taught me how to take accurate inventory of merchandise, how to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and how to tactfully deal with customer concerns.

As a senior in high school, I worked as an Auxiliary Dental Assistant for Dr. Steve P. Stern, D.M.D., a privately-owned pediatric dentist office located in Manalapan, New Jersey. I charted with Dr. Stern during patient consultations by recording the age of the child, the last time the child visited the dentist office, previous dental treatments the patient received, and dental treatments the patient received during the appointment. I participated in patient care by installing sealants to protect the tooth from decay, gave fluoride treatments to make the tooth enamel stronger, and developed patient x-rays using the A/T2000 Air Technique. I also sterilized dental utensils, filed patient documentation, mailed out billing information to patients and companies, and organized the office. After this work experience, it taught me medical and professional jargon used to communicate dental health and billing information, how to handle a child during patient consultation, and allowed me to experience first-hand how a pediatric dentist office is operated.
