Introduction to SQL

Name of sponsoring organization

NR Computer Learning Center (NRCLC)

Details of the activity

Our speaker was Dr Vazi Okhandier, she had over 30 years of teaching experience in Computer IT courses and Microsoft Products and had worked in major companies such as World Bank, General Motors, HP, Toyota, Olympus, Mitsubishi and many more.

What you learned

I had learned a more in depth with SQL, how I would need to use specific commands in order to execute what I want. For example for my to start the command I would need to write SELECT then grab words from the database that I would want to find, continuing on would need to select WHERE (which group the word I had found it in) and other commands like LIKE, AND, and OR.  I was taught how to execute commands for certain things I would look for through a database. She had also showed us how the basics of relationships between data’s and how it could be used to find, create, and/ or answer our problems.

How the activity relates to coursework or your career goals

This activity relates to my current coursework as I’m in data and analytics learning and using SQL, Dr Vazi Okhandier gives me a recap and lessons on things that I haven’t learned or yet to experience. SQL is extremely important in helping to organize and utilizing data. This event gives me a head start to become more familiar with SQL and better with it. This also relates to my career goal as one of my goals is to achieve a career that involves coding and SQL is becoming more in demand as of now.
