New Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Cybersecurity Reporting Rules for Public Companies
On October 25, 2023, I attended the New Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Cybersecurity Reporting Rules for Public Companies Zoom information session that was directed by Mrs. Thu Nguyen. At the beginning of the information session, Mrs. Nguyen displayed some statistics pertaining to cyber attacks so far in 2023. Today, 26% of breaches are from identity theft, 47% are from phising, and 27% are from online dating. Additionally, the majority of attacks come from the United States per the website Radware. Due to a large number of cyber security attacks in the United States, the SEC has adopted new rules requiring public companies to disclose material pertaining to cybersecurity incidents within four days of discovery. One takeaway I had from this lecture is to be more watchful of phising scams since they most prominent forms of cyber security attacks today. Attending New Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Cybersecurity Reporting Rules for Public Companies information session has greatly helped my understanding of cybersecurity as I am currently taking Managing Enterprise Cybersecurity.
