AIS Mentorship Program

Fall 2019

After joining AIS in the fall, I wanted to take advantage of as many resources as the organization offered. The mentorship program helped me learn a lot of necessary skills and meet new people in the MIS major. After many conversations with my mentor and hearing about her experience as an MIS major, I learned about a lot of opportunities available to me while in school. It became clear to me that not only is it important to take the classes for my major, but it is also important to get involved outside of the classroom. Through my mentorship, I became aware of the various ways that I can get more involved and even gain leadership experience. My mentor also showed me that, while getting involved is important and a good way to grow, I need to be able to prioritize these activities and manage my time. It is important to have a balance between classes, work and getting involved.

Spring 2020

During my second semester of being in the mentorship program, I was able to focus more on my personal goals. My mentor aided me in considering all of my future possibilities and choosing which of those I was willing to pursue. I began thinking about the companies that I was interested in interning at and some of my more long term career goals. My mentor was able to help guide me in finding my personal and career interests and how the two of those will one day come together. I am now able to do more research about the industries that I’m interested in and get a better perspective on which companies and jobs are going to be a good fit for me.
