Interests and Co-curricular Activities

As a college student I live a busy and active lifestyle. I find myself studying and completing homework most of the time when I am not attending classes. However, when I have free time I take advantage of that opportunity. In my spare time I enjoy watching and playing sports, cooking, and reading. Also, I volunteer during tax season to help low income families in the Philadelphia area prepare their tax return and I am a teaching assistant for the Fox School of Business MIS department.

Sports are a huge part of my life. Growing up with a twin brother we were always competitive. We played on many of the same sports teams and that is what motivated us to become better athletes. Also, it is what allowed me to become such a competitive and hard working individual. In my spare time I enjoy watching Philadelphia sports. I especially enjoy watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers. At a young age I always had a strong interest in sports and enjoyed playing them as well. Growing up, I played on a club hockey team and traveled across the country competing against many teams. Also, I played soccer for my high school team. As a sports fan, I also enjoy going to professional sports games. Although they are expensive to attend, I try to attend a few sports games every year.

Secondly, I enjoy cooking. Growing up with an italian mother and grandmother, I was taught how to cook and prepare food at a young age. My Grandmother always prepared home cook dinners every day and made sure everyone was feed well. Through this experience, I was able to use this skill I acquired  as a cook at a local pizza shop, a job I maintained for five years. Cooking has been a big part of my life and it is a way for me to enjoy myself at work. It is a skill that I can utilize for the rest of my life and is something I will always be thankful for being taught.

Also in my spare time, I enjoy reading about world news and politics. I find it extremely interesting to know what other countries are doing across the world. I try my best to keep up with the news and read the Philadelphia Inquirer and Wall Street journal everyday on my iPhone using the news stand application. I believe it is important to understand what is going on around you in the world and with that knowledge, you will be prepared to handle most situations that head your way.

Being an accounting and management information system major, I have found out that joining the Association of Information Systems and the Institute of Management Accountants has been the perfect way to compliment my education. Both Student Professional Organizations offer many opportunities to build relationships and networks with current students, faculty, alumni members, and employers. Also, as a member of these organizations, I  am able to volunteer in  the community. Through these organizations, I am able to gain first hand information about today’s business environment including various business processing issues many company’s are experiencing in order to improve the efficiency of their business. In Association of Information Systems we also provide IT solutions within Temple University and external clients in order to earn revenue and grow our organization. Being a new member of the  AIS organization, I plan to get more involved and hopefully become an officer before graduation. Most importantly, the most satisfying thing about being a member of both organizations is meeting people with similar career interests   and accomplishing goals with the members of your organization.

Also,I volunteer at Temple University’s ambler campus to provide tax assistance for low income families, students, and the elderly within the Philadelphia area. I have gone through over fifteen hours of training and have been certified by the IRS. Currently, I volunteer  every saturday throughout tax season for five hours. This has been a great experience for me and has allowed to help individuals within the community.

Lastly, This semester I have taken on additional responsibilities and have become a technical assistant for the Management Information Systems department within the Fox School of Business for the data analytics course. As a technical assistant, I am responsible for providing data analytics tutoring to over 60 students during scheduled office hours and by appointment. Also, I am required to grade students weekly assignments and update students grades in the grade book. Next semester, I plan on becoming a teaching assistant for this course, which will require that I hold additional office hours, hold review sessions, attend labs, attend classes, and grade all student exams and assignments
