Career Objectives

At age 10 I wanted to play for the New York Yankees, but now I am just happy to watch them. At age 13 I wanted to have a career in the NFL, but I have just settled with enjoying the New York Giants tear through the league. At 16 I wanted to become a journalist, but it is a dying field and it seems like any person can throw a blog together now. Now, at 19, I just want a job.

It is ironic that we spend our childhoods with these fantasies and lofty expectations for ourselves, but how many people can say that they are doing what they have always wanted to? Not many would be my guess. So instead of saying what specific job I want, I will just tell you about what I want to get out of my future career:

1.) Money has never been an issue for me. I do not spend very much. In terms of a job though, I would like to make enough in order to live comfortably. More importantly, once I have a family I want to be able to provide them with everything they want and need without spoiling them.

2.) I would prefer a job that allows me room for promotion. I find that I work best when there are goals for me to achieve, and I think most people would agree to that. Knowing that if I put in the time and effort that I would be promoted would be all the motivation that I will need.

3.) I would like a career that allows me to never miss any important events in my family’s lives. Having the flexibility to leave work an hour early to catch a baseball game is something very desirable to me. I am more than willing to put in the hard work, but family will always be the most important thing to me.

4.) Lastly, I want work to stay at work. I never ever want to become one of those people who lets their work life blur into their home life. My family does not deserve to deal with my problems at work. All they deserve is to have my undivided attention while I am in the confines of the home. Life is to short to have the petty stuff interfere with what matters most.

I think that my career objectives are not that outrageous, but possibly a bit ambitious. The likelihood that they all come true is slim because life is nothing more than a bunch of days all equally unpredictable, but I will strive to make my goals come true through hard work, determination, and commitment.
