Achievements

During my high school years I was heavily involved with extra curricular activities. I was the student director of a volunteer organization called East Pennsboro Playground Pals. The program was designed to involve high school students in the elementary and middle school students’ curriculum and physical fitness. I organized a group of 30 students to visit the elementary and middle schools daily in pairs to help with the supervision and the education of the students. I was also involved in a Cross Age Teaching Program. This program was implemented to teach middle school students about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. I was in charge of designing lesson plans weekly in order to educated and keep the students attention during the lesson.

In my junior and senior years of high school I was nominated to be a Student Representative to the School Board. I was one of two students selected from the student body to inform the School Board on the activities and opinions of the students. Being a Student Representative to the School Board let me in on the decisions that had to be made regarding budgeting and disciplinary actions. Another requirement of being a Student Representative to the School Board was that I also was placed on the Principal’s Advisory Board. This Board was designed to help keep the Principal informed as to what was happening within his school. We also organized different charity events all benefiting the East Pennsboro Family Fund. The Family Fund was used to support the less fortunate families within our community with financial support. The Family Fund would help the families of students in the district with paying the bills, any medical care that was needed, and we even helped to purchase a heating and air conditioning unit for a family that desperately needed it. We raised money through selling T-Shirts and even organized a Christmas luncheon with the high school chef and the Superintendent. The Principal’s Advisory Board also organized a charity walk to benefit the people affected by the earthquake in Haiti in 2010.

I was also nominated for a “Leaders of Tomorrow” award by the Carlisle Sentinel and CenturyLink. This award recognized Central Pennsylvania students for outstanding academic and community service achievements.
