Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board
The Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board is an organization that promotes and manages events in Montgomery County, PA. They work directly with restaurants, venues, hotels, and Valley Forge National Historical Park to market various events and serve as a resource for the visitors of Montgomery County.
During my internship in the spring semester of my Junior year, I worked directly with the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the National Historic Park to prepare and execute an innovative marketing plan to entice recreational users of the park to take advantage of the historical aspects that Valley Forge National Historic Park has to offer. I also supported the web presence of both the Park and Bureau through the supply of engaging, informative, and appropriate marketing content on social media outlets that include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Blogs, and LinkedIn.
The majority of my hours were spent at the Park. This gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the Revolutionary War and the Winter Encampment from 1777-1778. My main responsibility was sourcing the media streams that were being consumed by the visitors to the Park and analyzing which mediums were most successful at giving information to the visitors. I did this through Google Analytics and by creating an administering surveys to Park patrons. Surveying the visitors was one of my favorite aspects of this internship because it gave me the ability to interact with many different people and establish a relationship. With the help of the Park Media Specialist, I created an extensive social media strategy that included best practices and how to create quality content. As many of the Park Rangers were older they did not understand the impact social media has. They also did not necessarily understand how to use social media; my strategy included a detailed guide on how to implement social media.
