Be My Eyes App – Volunteer
The Be My Eyes app aims to connect a global community of volunteers to help the visually impaired see and perform daily tasks. When a visually impaired person is in need of help, they are able to use the app and call a volunteer. If the volunteer is free, they can pick up the call, however, if not – the call will go to the next volunteer available. I recently joined and became a volunteer, and was able to answer a call.
The man who called in through the app needed help choosing a matching suit and tie for a zoom call. He was giving a speech and wanted to look appropriate and professional. I was able to assess the options that he showed me through the video call and picked out a set that matched for him. After, he thanked me and we exchanged goodbyes.
Through technology, we are able to help out the visually impaired in a very efficient and effective way. This experience has shown me how important technology is in our lives. This app is crucial to many visually impaired people and has made the volunteer process so easy for people who want to help. It is free to download and the sign up process is very simple. I highly recommend downloading and becoming a volunteer!
