Coursework

MIS 2501 – Enterprise IT Architecture:

In Enterprise IT Architecture, we learned the basics of enterprise architecture and its framework for information systems. The course dives into the architecture of the IT field, and we had hands on experience using Microsoft Azure to create virtual machines. We also explored different technologies by writing flash research papers, which are one page papers explaining the advantages of implementing a specific technology in a given business case. Flash research papers made students find a technical solution, and a business case to present it to business stakeholders in short-form to convince them to invest in the technology. I believe this was a valuable skill for MIS students to learn for when we go out in the business world especially with Professor Doyle teaching the course with his long history of experience in the IT world.

MIS 2502 – Data Analytics:

In this course, we mainly focused on analyzing data while working with different databases. Here we used tools like Microsoft Excel, MySQL, and R-Studios to process and analyze data. Data has become one of the most valuable resources on the planet, and in Data Analytics we learned to how analyze, understand, distinguish, and present data. These skills are shown by the MIS students every year during the Data Analytics Challenge and the AIS National Competition.

MIS 3501 – Data-Centric Application Development

As frustrating as MIS 3501 is, it was an enjoyable course that taught students valuable skills to put on our resumes. Data-Centric Application Development is the class that develops students coding skills. We start off learning CSS and HTML, and then PHP and PDO to create and host websites by integrating it with SQL as well. Before this class I had a little knowledge on HTML and CSS but it made me realize how important these skills are in the job market as the business world continues to push towards being more innovative.

MIS 3506 – Digital Design and Innovation:

Digital Design and Innovation teaches students about the roles and responsibilities of being a business analyst. As a student in this course we’re assigned a semester long project in which we must create a prototype to present to our project sponsor and clients using the prototyping tool Justinmind. We were paired up with the MIS 3535 students and they had the role of being our project managers. The course develops student’s technical, communicative, and organizational skills.
