Amazon’s New Technology – 6/17
On June 18th, Amazon will be announcing the introduction of the company’s first smart phone, which will be the world’s first 3D smartphone. Though it is not yet official, the rumors have been confirmed by multiple news sources and the specifications of the phone have been released as well. TechCrunch has reported that, “the phone runs Amazon’s fork of Android, FireOS. It will come with several built-in apps that use these extreme 3D parallax effects…The phone itself is reported to sport a 720p 4.7-inch screen and be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 2GB of RAM. There will be six cameras on the device — four dedicated for the head tracking along with a front-facing camera and a rear-facing 13MP camera.” This puts the new smart phone right into contention with all of the newest top-of-the-line devices by Samsung, Apple, and LG. Combined with the announcement of Amazon’s newest music streaming service and its existing video streaming service, this phone may be poised to be one of the biggest breakthrough technologies of the year. Speculations on how this may affect the company plans or valuation will be largely determined by the general reaction by consumer reports as well as social media buzz.
