IBIT/CDI Challenge or Conference(Data Analytics Challenge)

In both my Fall 2017/2018 semester I participated in the yearly challenge known as the Data Analytics Challenge.  What the challenge is was we were given three different topics to choose from. Each topic had its own questions to choose from and with that, you had to use the data provide an even external data to make an insight on how to solve that particular question.  Using a combination of tools such as Excel and Tableau, we had to utilize them to visually and analytically showcase our solution to our findings and make a statement on why we believed that. What I learned is that data has many different stories to it and can be interpreted in many ways. One thing I assumed when I first got into Data Analytics was that there was a set solution or one single pattern that could be the main point. However, that wasn’t the case and when doing this challenge I was able to compile many different stories and patterns which could be interpreted different ways in how it’s presented. It’s more focused on what and how you utilized the data and not about what the data already says. Because of that, I was able to able to come up with my own unique solution in which I had to dig deep to find as suppose to what is obvious or what is provided. That was the main reason why I loved this challenge because there is no wrong answer and it’s all about creativity within the individual.
