2024 Cyber Threat Intelligence Trends and Predictions

Thu Nguyen is an Associate Vice President at Wells Fargo working as part of the Audit Leadership Management Team. She serves on Temple University’s Information Technology, Auditing and Cybersecurity (ITACS) graduate program’s Industry Advisory Council and teaches the program’s IT Governance and IT Audit Capstone courses. During this webinar, she spoke about topics such as ransomware, cloud instructions, and emerging tech. She talked about drivers, and the diplomatic disputes between military conflict between countries. She talked about cyberespionage operations increasing in short term to gather intel and serve national interest. She talked about indicators to look for in 2024, such as hacktivist groups emerging and large scale hacktivist media campaigns that spread disinformation. Thu Nguyen talked about the trend forecast of ransomware data breaches and how they’re increasing in the year of 2024 and how these attacks have led to additional government sanctions levied on ransomware operators overseas. She spoke about trend forecast for social engineering and how they use fishing, and new techniques to seek and expand targeting and maximize monetization opportunities. As a student majoring in MIS with a goal to get into the cybersecurity field, this webinar was great at gaining info on new cyber security trends that are happening already in the year of 2024 and what to expect when I enter the field.
