IT Awards
On Tuesday, April 12, 2016, I attended my first IT Awards sponsored by the MIS department. The event is held to recognize and congratulate students who show excellence in the IT field, faculty who lead in guiding those students, and businesspersons who have been successful in the IT field and support Temple’s MIS program.
Dean Porat gave a speech praising the MIS department at Temple and it was crazy to think about to see how many opportunities I am given to successfully pursue my career through this program. Businesspersons gave their speeches discussing how they got into the field, how they advise rising to the top, and how that is possible through their companies which really influenced me to get more involved and also opportunities to join in their company. It was great to discover the connections and alumni the MIS department has with companies like Walmart, QVC, AmerisourceBergen, and Comcast.
This event gave me the opportunity to network with students and also the business people that were there. Each of these opportunities to network with others has taught me more about the MIS department and the resources where I can find guidance or assistance in relation to internships, classes, professors, etc. This event is interesting because by meeting others, I got more of a sense of where I am going with in the MIS field.
