Past Courses

MIS 0855: Data Science (Fall 2020)

This Data Science course solidified my interest and passion for working with data and using information technology. It introduced me to the software Tableau, and taught me how to analyze and visualize data. I learned more about information systems topics, data and information, and data cleansing. Similar to MIS 2901, this course provides me with a wide range of new information that I can utilize in any technology environment. In my future jobs or internships, I will be able to use a multitude of skills I learned in this class. I can navigate and use Tableau, clean dirty data sets through excel, and use concepts about data and information in conversations in a professional world.

MIS 2901: Honors Information Systems in Organizations (Fall 2019)

This introductory class is where I realized my interest for the MIS major by learning about big data, process mapping, EDRs , cybersecurity, and CRM and ERP software. I was also introduced to basic JavaScript coding in addition to CSS and HTML. This course was a perfect introduction to the information systems field. It gave me a broad understanding of the many paths within the major I could take and got me excited for my future working with this information. Now as an MIS major, I use all the knowledge I learned from MIS 2901 in my current classes and when participating in any type of information systems discussion.

STAT 2103: Statistical Business Analytics (Summer 2020)

This course was a continuation of STAT 1102. The topics expanded into designing studies and experiments, working with binomial, normal, and sampling distributions, confidence intervals, data description, estimation of parameters, hypothesis testing, correlation and regression, predicting variables, and multiple regressions. As with STAT 1102, this course utilized excel projects in order to reinforce concepts learned in class and introduce new excel skills to students. I worked with the data analysis toolpak, distribution and test functions, forecasting, and regression analysis. Being introduced to these skills has allowed me to be proficient when working with excel and comfortable with data analysis.  I have learned many ideas that are the basis for the data driven courses I have taken since then and the ones that are upcoming. All of the concepts I gained knowledge in during this summer are vital to understand when working in business, especially as an MIS major. In my future, I will continue to use these topics when manipulating data, forecasting, and solving business problems.

STAT 1102: Quantitative Methods for Business II (Spring 2020)

In this course, I learned statistical concepts in areas of quantitative analysis. I worked with qualitative and quantitative data, measures of central tendency, economic functions, probabilities of events , distributions, variability, and regression analysis. This course also included excel projects that introduced new functions and data analysis tools each week. I wrote basic macros and manipulated data using various tools. Every topic in this class has a business application that I will be able to use in my future when problem solving or working with statistics.
