The Gartner 2021 APAC CIO Agenda: 4 Ways to Accelerate Digital Business (APAC Time)

The webinar was hosted by Gartner and speaker was named Andy Rowsell-Jones who is a distinguished VP analyst.

Because of the current COVID-19 regulations like previous events, this one was also online and live webinar.

Most of the meeting was about how digital transformation is accelerated. I thought presentation was at right point since we talked about how coronavirus affected workplace and people\’s focus shifted digital environment even more. I specifically learned CIO responsibility on IT and its digital transformation. Speaker gave us lots of examples about how those people had to step up during coronavirus. We mainly learned about 4 pillars regarding digital transformation process:

  • Win differently: to anticipate consumer trends, pivot architecture
  • Unleash force multipliers: to sustain momentum, harness gain in culture
  • Banish drags: To accelerate digital, act on your classification of investment of activites
  • Redirect resources: to optimize investments, reevaluate business cases.

The fact that how amount of people increased who works at home was obviously already known but numbers and expectations about 2021 was interesting to me. I have a new idea of even we can solve this coronavirus situation at some time, people will remain at home because companies already spent too much money on investments in order to provide workplace to its workers. Personally, I always think of the elimination of some expenses at workplace during coronavirus but actually digital transformation expenses also occurred during lockdown period. As the speaker told us, \”level of ultimization and digitalization increased tremendously\”.  Of course they experienced challenges other than expense and financing such as workers old habits that people couldn\’t adjust their new workplace.

The most interesting concept that I heard today was about physical signature need at the workplace and how IT specialist fixed that problem. The way they had to come up with secure digital platform was amazing.

Today\’s stuff was related to my cloud architecture class under IT teams and how they work connected each other. When specialist apply new cloud systems, we learned that IT teams have to educate everyone in the company with minimum requirements so everyone at the workplace is capable of working with the systems. Same as new other digital platforms developed during pandemic, IT teams had to present them.

Moving forward, regardless if I work with the IT teams or not, I have a clear idea of how we can understand whether consumer will react bad or good to new digital transformation and how business has to shape its investment during the process.
