How to get Tableau for class and license key

UPDATE:

You may use Tableau Desktop version 10.x, with no adverse effect (as far as the professors can tell) on assignments. I have updated the instructions below to reflect we’ll be using version 10.

————-

We’ll be using Tableau Desktop version 9.3.5 10.x a lot during this course. You’ll need your own individual license key (previously, students shared a bulk key,  but typically would run out or run into issues). You can get a full copy of the Tableau software – PC or Mac – for free!

To request a free copy of the software:

  1. Go to the landing page and click the “Get Tableau for Free” button.
  2. Fill out the form and make sure that you use your temple.edu email address.
  3. They should contact you within a few days with more information on how to download the software.

Tableau’s site has a series of quick start guides and video-based training. If you want to do something that we don’t cover in class, check there.
