My Academic Career

“What are you doing in school?”
- It is a question so many undergraduates are asked and so many don’t know how to answer. Until recently, I had no clue.
That was until I took Mrs. Storm Wilkins’ Introduction to Risk Management and Insurance class during the first semester of my sophomore year. This class exploited one of the most interesting topics that I’ve learned about thus far at Temple University. I enjoy the business school and all aspects of business itself, but risk management presents an issue with no finite solution. It creates a gray area that requires a deep knowledge of coverage options and risk control programs to develop a comprehensive and effective risk management program.
I declared Risk Management and Insurance as my major because it was where my thirst for knowledge truly lies. It has been said to do what you’re passionate about, and I think I’ve found it. I genuinely enjoy learning about loss exposures and ways to mitigate them because doing so gives me the opportunity to help people or corporations in ways other areas of business simply cannot.
I currently am in my second semester as a RMI major, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. I currently have a 2.70 GPA and am working hard to improve this over my final year at Temple University. This semester I will be taking:
- Retirement Plans (RMI)
- International Risk Management
- Integrative Business Applications
- Business Communications
- Religion in the World
I’ve also joined the Sigma Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma this past semester. I’m on the Professional Development committee and am looking to get more involved with their activities this year because it was very enjoyable last year. I attended most of the H. Wayne Snider Guest Lecturer speeches and learned a copious amount about the insurance industry, various insurance companies and their operations, and so much more!
