Interests and Community Service
Interests
I enjoy watching and playing soccer, and am fascinated by its power to unite people all across the world. In recent years there has been a movement led by inquisitive staticians to apply analytics to soccer. Some of the work these analysts have published is quite amazing, and personally I am a big fan of the work being done by Opta Sports. I recommend that anyone interested in data analytics check out Opta’s site.
Another passion of mine is reading. My favorite work of fiction is One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest by Ken Kesey and my favorite nonfiction piece is The Signal and the Noise by Nate Silver.
Community Service
In 10th, 11th, and 12th grade I helped out in my community by volunteering at the West Chester Public Library. I usually assisted by either stacking books or chaperoning weekly children’s night, and it was relaxing and rewarding work.
At Temple, I got involved with community service through a landscape architecture course I took in the Fall of 2015. I completed an Urban Greening Stewardship project with two fellow classmates, which entailed working with local organizations that were focused on beautification of Philadelphia, ecological restoration, or urban farming. I spent most of my time volunteering at Fair Hill Burial Ground, a historic cemetery that is a few block north of Temple’s campus. Working with other volunteers, I helped to maintain the grounds by weeding and resetting sunken grave stones.
Fair Hill hosts regular service events once every month or two, and I do my best to attend.
