Dream Academy Foundation

The IBIT Small Business / Non-Profit project helped Dream Academy Foundation, a non-profit based in Chicago, Illinois. The project was completed in Spring of 2021. Mary Muldoon served as the advisor, and Julia Petiteau was my partner. The project scope was defined as follows: to restructure the WordPress site by editing content, presenting events more effectively, and establishing forms for mentors, volunteers, and participants; to create an e-commerce site using WooCommerce to connect to the WordPress site; to create a social media marketing plan to be implemented on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook; and to train the founder on how to maintain the site, including updating events, adding new pages, and managing the e-commerce site using WooCommerce.

In terms of the end result, I was able to add a new theme to the website to support a cleaner, more professional look. I also created a more condensed site infrastructure that better highlighted past events. Finally, I added new features, such as online sign-up forms, a sponsors page, and a connected e-commerce site. My partner Julia also created a social media marketing plan that was given to the founder of the organization. The URL of the new site can be found here: dreamafoundation.org.

This experience helped me gain valuable knowledge that I will use throughout my professional career. I learned how to work with clients, create an e-commerce site from scratch, and improve the overall functionality of a site. I also learned how to develop a website using a two-week Sprint.
