MIS Coding Helpdesk Worker

Temple University, Philadelphia, PA  (January 2020–May 2021)

Responsibilities:

● Guided MIS students through programming assignments related to HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Node.js

● Evaluated programming assignments prior to them being assigned by instructors to better assist students with their questions

● Provided reports to programming professors detailing the assistance provided to students so that they can adjust instruction as needed

My time at the helpdesk was instrumental to my professional development. Helping students work through their programming assignments made me a much better teacher, a trait I consider very valuable for all work in which I may be expected to possess expertise on any one topic. Furthermore, the helpdesk improved my diagnostic abilities in relation to program bugs exponentially. This is an extremely important skill to possess, as I hope to work hands-on in software throughout my career.

Student Building Supervisor

Temple University, Philadelphia, PA  (August 2019–October 2020)

Responsibilities:

● Oversaw support activities for all events in the Charles library, ensuring they were adequately prepared for, supported in the process, and cleaned up afterward

● Maintained a kempt and quiet atmosphere throughout the library, organized spaces as requested, and attended to disruptive patrons as needed

● Relayed information to supervisors and coworkers regarding important changes or any relevant incidents that occurred during my shift

My time as a supervisor was similarly crucial to my professional development, mainly in the area of soft skills. Working as a supervisor at the library I had to interact with dozens of people every shift with many different questions and concerns. Doing so improved my abilities as a front-facing employee a great deal, something I believe to be especially important for any future roles in which I’m expected to have consistent interaction with clients. I was also expected to consistently keep track of any incidents or changes that occurred during my shift. This improved my documentation skills as well as my attention to detail, both of which are crucial in nearly any professional role.
