Ethics in Data Science paper
In this project, I wrote a brief research paper covering the crucial and expanding subject of ethics in data science, available here. This paper covers some high-profile cases of data science programs showing a clear bias in their effectiveness towards certain demographics, as well as incidences where data science projects compromised the confidentiality of persons’ records. It is crucial for the subject to be considered by anyone working in IT, due to how pervasive ethics violations can be across the field. Oftentimes, IT professionals won’t consider the possible adverse effects their projects may have, resulting in violations of people’s privacy, and misleading statistics leading to undue prejudice towards different groups. It’s for these reasons that writing this paper was so important, as it made me more aware of the possible ramifications of my work throughout college and in the years to come.
