Delving into Technology!

Well now…

This is my first attempt at blogging and I sincerely hope I’m doing it right! I’m a fresh MIS student with only two courses in my major under my belt and I’m IN LOVE!

I had the honor of attending the Women in Communications Technology – Tech It Out Internet of Things 2017 conference just yesterday and I networked my heart out! I have encountered such empowering women that are so excited to open the door for future generations of women in technology.  I met directors of departments, CEOs of companies, entry level employees making their way into the field AND men in the field who were empowering and supporting women! It was so incredibly refreshing.

Phenomenal speakers inspired me: Sharmila Ravvi, VP of SE for Comcast, Morgan Devlin, recent grad from USC and now Business Analyst for Comcast, Felicite Moorman, CEO of Bulogics and Co-founder and CEO of StratIS, Chris Satchell, EVP and CPO for Comcast Cable, among many others.

I was able to speak to and be wowed by speaker Katharine Chu! An amazing woman in the field! She has three (THREE!) bachelor degrees in Science, Economics and Comparative Media Studies from MIT and a master’s in Engineering Systems. She has my dream job! 🙂 She generates ideas, develops go-to market strategies and has had the opportunity to work with healthcare, telecom, defense, home security and a slew of other industries as a consultant. We even got a little personal and she mentioned the work life balance when her job required she traveled 4 days out of the week across the country was challenging but not impossible. It was so incredible to speak to her and hear REAL stories.

Intern opportunities galore! The key is to network! I made some amazing contacts at this conference that will help me build my repertoire of skills and experience as I begin this journey into technology. I cannot wait for the next event, the next conference, the next happy hour, the next OPPORTUNITY!

Having a lovely time with fellow student and friend Laura Curtaccio at the Women in Communications Technology 2017 conference.
