I came into contact with Shawn Niederriter of Sandbox Platform, the Philadelphia-based engineering lab and makerspace management platform, during the Fall 2017 semester. Shawn and I were in the same group during MIS4596 and for the group project, we decided to work on his startup company. Soon after, he introduced me to Ryan Eppley, the President & CEO of Sandbox, and the rest of the MIS4596 group began working together on the company. (also included in the group was Zack Trona and Ken Fong)
Having a strong background in website design and search engine optimization from Bucks County-based digital marketing company, Infinity Digital, I took on the responsibility of creating the front-end website for the platform as well as laying the groundwork for any future digital marketing campaigns. My primary goal throughout the semester was to take input from Ryan and Shawn to ensure the design and structure of the website was completed.
Sandbox Platform has pivoted a few times since the beginning of the semester, but the most recent focus of the company is on equipment procurement and inventory management for engineering labs and makerspaces. Currently, lab managers and tech directors at universities do not have an efficient way to procure supplies for their lab, nor can they accurately track inventory levels in real-time. This includes electronic sensors, semiconductors, robotics equipment, 3D printing equipment, raspberry pi’s, and many more products. Sandbox offers a b2b ecommerce platform to ease these procurement issues, and an integrated inventory management platform to ease the struggles of sifting through disorganized spreadsheets and emails.
Because of my attention to detail, positive energy, and web design and digital marketing skills, I was offered a full-time position in the company. I am set to begin my role as Digital Media Associate on December 18th, 2017, just after my final exams are completed. I look forward to the opportunity to continue sharpening my skills as a digital marketer in the following specialties:

Shawn has also expressed interest having me learn a few programming languages to help with development of the product, including Python and Javascript. In the few months I have gotten to know Shawn, Ryan, and the rest of the Sandbox team as a student, I learned that the startups I was with previously (Total Web Company and Infinity Digital) are entirely different and require a new set of compitencies to thrive. I dove into an industry in which I have no prior experience but am adapting very quickly. Being a startup company has its risks, but I am confident that the hardworking and dedicated team already assembled will allow us to make the world a better place!
