Final Project MIS4596
What an amazing experience to work with a team of MIS student that have a passion for technology, business and entrepreneurship. Our team selected a large topic that allowed us to examine the medical industry to identify troubled areas. We focused on the medical industry, specifically the patient side.
We learned that the patient is the one common entity that is not involved in their own medical experience. All the decisions for the patient are done by Hospitals, Specialist, Primary Care facilities and at times Insurance providers.
Our object was to allow a secure means for the sharing of documentation in a way that will offer real-time up to date records for all the entities involved. We also focused on patient engagement to offer transparency and reduce redundancy. The patient will not have to replicate the registration process at each visit because this information will be safely shared between the entities that are given permissions. When a patient takes blood work, lab test or any other procedure, the patient will confirm the procedure to acknowledge and record the action. Waiting for results will not be a painful process of uncertainty because information will be accessible once the procedure has been completed. We think this is going reward great dividends for Insurance Companies, Hospitals, Specialist, Primary Care facilities and the Patient.
By engaging the patient, allowing them to rate medical performances the Insurance Companies (or Payer) will have a means to measure KPI at all levels. Hospitals and Specialist will be provided a means to improve research and development. They are able to measure diagnosis and treatments by monitoring the patient when they are released from medical institution.
One take away from this project is that I was able to see how important every component is when working on business projects. The material that I have learned over the past few years all ties together when working on the capstone project. The most important for me was the Work Breakdown Structure to help guide our process and offer a map to follow. I have also learned that it is easy to drift out of scope when an idea is not S.M.A.R.T.
