Introduction to Scientific Legal Mapping and Policy Surveillance
Legal mapping is an important tool in building strategy and that mapping is built upon using policy surveillance. Using policy surveillance allows for reliable non partisan data that can be tracked over time. This can be used for designing strategies built around the legal precedent across different jurisdictions.
This workshop taught me the processes behind how policy tracking research is built and maintained. What I found quite interesting is how in the research they need to define a common standard on the topic is as many laws can have very different wording and structure despite coving the same topic. The different areas where the law beyond just the legislature such as court precedent and state executive orders showed just how complex the obtaining all the information can be.
