Student Worker (Assistant Tech Support Specialist)

As a student worker in the Dean’s Office Department at Temple University, the majority of my work comes from the MIS department under the guidance of Jason Leeser. I have been working there since January 2018 and am working during this summer as well. During this past spring semester, my focus was to learn the skills necessary to help out with the online classes that are taught at the Fox School of Business and to aid in the improvement of the tech systems currently being used by Temple students. Some of these skills included learning how to use WebEx (the platform Temple uses for online classes) and streamlining the process of making accessible PDFs using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Acrobat DC.

In addition to learning those skills, my job consisted mainly of serving as technical support for Temple teachers using WebEx. During the past semester and this summer, I sign in during classes and help teachers with any issues they may be having with WebEx while teaching. This was useful since it taught me new features that I could use during my own online classes, and it also taught me how to troubleshoot problems that I had never come across before. As a result of this, I have become more independent in my own MIS classes because I am more inclined to play around with different programs and google solutions before seeking help from anyone else. Since the job requires me to interact with people constantly, it has improved my communication skills and I am able to effectively communicate my message to others. This has been an incredibly valuable opportunity for me since there is no better place to gain MIS experience than the very department that is responsible for teaching it.
