HOBY

I have been volunteering with the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Organization ever since I became a student ambassador in 2007. Each year in every state, sophomores that are seen as leaders by their peers and teachers are selected to go to this conference and meet other students in similar positions from other schools. It has been held at Temple University for the PA-East group and generally has over 200 high school students participate each year from this region. Through panels with professionals, students learn how to take their leadership skills from the classroom into their communities. I am a true believer in the power the conference has and what it does for students in high school. I went back as a alumni team(A-Team)junior facilitator in 2008, and could not attend the next two years, but I did help with the planning of the seminar. In 2011, I went back for my last year as a junior facilitator before I turned 21 and could become a facilitator of my own group of students. I also volunteered my services as a DJ and hosted the costume dance party the second night of the conference. I plan on going again next summer as a facilitator, and planning more with the HOBY seminar.

I was chosen as a member of the Corporate Board in 2012 and given the position of Alumni Advisor for the 2013 year. I currently hold this position and work with all the alumni to plan events as well as prepare for the upcoming year’s seminar. This past year was a success and I had an amazing team of 25 that made the ambassadors’ experiences unforgettable.
