Owl Ambassadors

One semester after becoming a Temple Owl, I was welcomed into the fun, hectic, and challenging world of Temple University’s Undergraduate Admissions office. I was hired spring semester of freshman year as an Owl Ambassador. Owl Ambassadors are the first line in getting prospective students more interested in Temple by giving tours and giving them a true student’s perspective. I knew that it was the perfect job for an energetic freshman who wanted everyone to know about the awesome university I attend.

I was nervous when I received my three-inch binder and was told to memorize every fact in it about Temple. Somehow this did not make me stop and rethink my decision, and over the semester I worked with older owl ambassadors who helped perfect my tour so that every family that came to campus for a tour would be astounded. It took almost the whole semester to learn our entire tour which covered information in the areas of on-and off campus living, transportation, our TECH Center, and student life, to name a few.

In the downtime between tours, I also worked with everyone to do other administrative tasks for the office. We input each and every person who comes for a tour into our mailing list so that they receive as much Temple information as possible. We also help prepare applications for review by the admissions counselors in our office. This job is very hectic, because over 20,000 people apply and we receive their information at different times depending on the circumstances. Working in the office from spring 2010 until this past semester was incredible. Working there on the weekdays and often weekends for open house and other programs made everyone in the office feel much more like a family than simply coworkers. At times it was stressful, but working with my Temple family was much more rewarding when a family chose Temple because of the tour we gave.
