MIS 2502: Data Analytics

Data Analytics was the first true chance I got to do analytics in college. While I submitted an entry to the 2017 Data Analytics Challenge, I didn’t have a good grasp on exactly what I was doing. MIS 2502 gave me the opportunity to really understand analytics and provided many opportunities to do them, hands on. Through the class I was able to gain great experiences with SQL, Excel, and R from an analytics perspective, and used the knowledge gained to compete in the 2018 Data Analytics challenge (and win!).

MIS 2402: Data Centric Application Development

DCAP was the first opportunity I had to code in college. I have prior experience in code from high school and community college dual enrollment, but was locked into object-oriented programming languages (Java, C#). DCAP is a web development based class, and was focused primarily on Javascript, with bits and pieces of HTML and CSS. While I programmed interactive programs in my Java classes, I never was able to make a fully functioning, interactive webpage before this class. Web development is in incredibly high demand and javascript is an extremely powerful tool to have in your toolbox.
