Data analytics is at the core of the MIS major, and every year Temple provides students with an opportunity to showcase their analytical and design skills in the Analytics Challenge. On November 14th 2018, I was selected as the second place winner for the graphics track of Temple University’s 6th annual Data Analytics Challenge. The event was hosted by Temple University in coordination with IBIT, and sponsored by NBCUniversal, AmerisourceBergen, and Alexion. The challenge my team and I elected to tackle was the NBCUniversal prompt, “How can media companies align with eSports?”. Through the challenge I was able to learn about data visualization, infographics, analytics, and pitching. All of these skills tie directly into the core of management information systems, and particularly into the data analytics and data science courses.
