Growing up in a small town near the coast before the boom of technology, I was able to truly experience the simplicity of nature. Some of my favorite pastimes are fishing with my brother, going on boat rides, camping and cookouts. It is so easy to get caught up in the Apps and blogposts, that we often forget the beauty that is right in front of us. Every time I go home I make sure to sit in my backyard (pictured left) and remember what it was like before my iPhone was an extension of my hand.
Someday I aspire to work for a company that hasn’t forgotten the importance of being outdoors. It may seem conflicting that I am studying information technology, yet I believe that there must be a balance between utilizing the power of technology and understanding when you need to look for inspiration outside of the Google search box. An example of a company that fits my criteria is L.L. Bean, who have outdoor experience days as well as team days for their employees, which include going canoeing or hiking in order to boost morale and connect employees outside of the office.
