Community Involvement

I choose to be a proud and active volunteer in the community not only because it gives me a chance to give back and bring hope and happiness to others,  but volunteering has also contributes to my personal development. It had  exposed me to various responsibilities and strengthens my ability to work with others, as well as enhancing my communication skills and strengthen my competency to take directions and lead.

Aids Walk Philly, Race for the Cure, the Ovarian Cancer Walk/Run,  Relay for Life, the Diabetes Walk, and Autism Speak, are some of the walkathon fundraisers that I’ve volunteered with.  I’ve contributed to these great causes through either participating as a walker, or had volunteered through various other ways including volunteering at check points, managing and setting up stations, as well as  distributing snacks and beverages along the routs, directing walkers to services such as restrooms and first aid, and answering various questions that walkers might have. Volunteering for these great causes have truly contributed to my personal development. There is always something to take away from through each experience,  from learning how to work and communicate in a team with complete strangers, to  following directions from team leaders, and to even leading my very own team.

In addition to these charitable fundraisers, I’ve also helped out with churches, including the Newman Center of Temple University, the Chosen 300 Ministries, and the St. Augustine Church located near central Philadelphia. At these churches I’ve helped cleaned, cooked, prep, and served food to the churches members. The joy, thanks, and feedback after volunteering my service for these churches gives me a real sense of self fulfillment that money cannot buy.
