May 2013 – January 2014

This past summer, I worked at Liquid Interactive as a Strategy and Development Intern. Liquid Interactive is a digital marketing company in Breinigsville, PA that specializes in online experiences, mobility, multimedia, and search engine optimization. When I began my internship, my main role was search engine optimization. One of Liquid’s biggest clients is Aria Health, a Philadelphia health care company that was looking to expand its online presence through social media campaigns. I spent time analyzing their various campaigns to determine how successful they have been, and what can be done to improve going forward.

After my first week as an intern, I was asked to start working on a new project. Liquid had acquired a new client, who was interested in having us design a mobile application. My role was to design wireframes using the prototyping software, Axure. I began this project with a basic outline of what I felt the wireframes should look like and after presenting them to the client, I was asked to continue working on the project by designing functional wireframes. I built multiple prototypes and after every demonstration, there was always something new to add. This project reminded me a lot of the semester-long project in MIS 3504. It was great getting a chance to test what I learned in the classroom out in the real world.

The other project I worked on throughout the summer was the redesign of the Health Partners website. This project required a lot of time and patience because even when a website looks complete, it might not function properly. My first role was content integration, which involved building and designing all of the pages for the website. I was given a folder containing all of the pages and a sitemap describing where everything should go. After the content was integrated, my new role was quality assurance testing for functionality. This involved creating accounts, testing links, and making sure submitted data was stored properly.

Throughout my internship, I learned a lot about what it is like to work as a developer and realized what I am capable of. I learned how to use new software like Axure and Umbraco, and expanded my existing knowledge of Google Analytics, WordPress, and HTML. I also really liked how my three roles were very similar to the three MIS classes I took last spring because it allowed me to apply my classroom knowledge to real world situations. Interning at Liquid Interactive was definitely one of the most valuable experiences I have ever had.
