Read Between the Lines: Decoding Charts and Graphs in the News
As a Management Information Systems major at Temple University, I participated in an online workshop sponsored by Temple University Libraries as part of National News Literacy Week, which focused on the critical analysis of charts, graphs, and statistics commonly used in the news media. The workshop discussed various examples of misleading data visualizations, highlighting the importance of data scale and context. This workshop helped me develop my skills in critically analyzing the accuracy and ethics of the data, which is directly related to my major and future career goals, as I can see the importance of these skills when creating and analyzing data visualizations commonly used in the field of information systems, which is crucial for effective and appropriate business decisions.
