This semester I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the URBN Headquarters in Philadelphia’s Navy Yard. URBN consists of the brands Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, and Vetri Family. The headquarters were reminiscent of what one might hear about Google; a sprawling campus with interestingly designed buildings, fun relaxation areas, and an overall atmosphere of free thinking and innovation. While on the tour, we got to learn about the roles that IT and information play in regards to brands like Urban Outfitters. It was interesting to find out that as more sales are being done online, new payment methods are being looked at to prevent fraud and scams. This experience definitely opened my eyes to the fact that the skills we learn in the MIS department at Temple can be used in places we might not typically think they belong.
