Experience

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute, Temple University

Employed: February 2018-Present

Position: Student Financial Analyst

At the IEI am responsible for recording and keeping track of spending activities for the department. Among my daily activities include paying and tracking invoices, preparing budgets, placing orders, and confirming award payments for numerous events that we hold. I also work with various members of the department to help keep everything in order.

This past semester, I was in charge of preparing budgets for each of the funds that we pay money out of, along with our main operating account. This meant going back through three years of data, sorting it, organizing it, compiling it, and using it to create forecasts for next year. This year I also created my first invoices using quickbooks which enabled the head of our department to send them to numerous sponsors in order to collect payment. In April we hosted our largest event of the year, the Be Your Own Boss Bowl®. Student and alumni entrepreneurs pitch business ideas for prizes ranging from $1,000 to $40,000. I, along with the other student workers and faculty in the department, were able to put together our best event yet. The hard work leading up to it, including setting up a spreadsheet for the auditors, preparing judging packets, and getting information from the contestants, made the payoff even greater at the end.

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., Bridgewater, NJ

Employed: May 2015-January 2019

Position: Customer Service Representative / Cashier

At Wegmans I assisted a variety of customers on a day-to-day basis ensuring they received the best possible experience. Along those lines, I was expected to handle customer complications in an effective and positive manner. Working at Wegmans meant working as part of a team towards the common goal of customer satisfaction. I also handled large sums of money and various types of transactions daily.

Looking back on my time at Wegmans, I sure am going to miss it. Some of the best connections I ever made were with my customers and coworkers, faces I would see almost every day. I got to work one-off days in various departments, such as prepared foods, dairy, and the wine department, which always kept things interesting. I was also regularly placed in the Cafe area registers, were there are no front-end managers to help handle problems. I like to think this was because I was usually very effective at handling customer issues. I believe my time at Wegmans has prepared me for a future career in accounting by teaching me how to deal with the public; how to handle a situation so that everyone leaves smiling.
