Assurance Intern

As an Assurance Intern, it was my responsibility to support the Audit Team in the planning phase of the year end audit. This included researching the client to update information on the business entity and its environment, updating information on controls and control testing, and working with off-site support to coordinate projects. Towards the end of the internship, work shifted more towards the audit of second quarter financials, and my main role was the tie out of the client’s 10Q form. This was a week-long process that enabled me to look through all of the financial statements and notes to the financial statements of a company and tie all of the values to evidence that we had obtained, ensuring that there were no material misstatements. Throughout the internship I learned a great deal about the ins and outs of the audit process, which allowed me to both use my previous accounting knowledge and also prepared me for future accounting courses (especially Audit). For example, I was able to locate an instance where there was an error in a calculation of the days sales in inventory formula, which I had previously about learned in Intermediate Accounting. I was also able to utilize my MIS courses during this internship. Specifically, while updating a slide deck on the client and their business environment, I was able to use Tableau to create visualizations of the financial statements to make them easier to interpret at a quick glance. Overall, this internship was a wonderful experience that challenged me and made me excited for the future.
