Kyle Matusik’s Internship – Bquipped Sports Technology Intern
This past semester, I have been working as a Sports Technology Intern with Bquipped. Bquipped is a local start up that aims to recommend athletes their optimal sporting equipment through the use of survey technology and data analytics. Bquipped’s proprietary algorithm utilizes data from their equipment surveys to make personalized recommendations to athletes. I work on a small team, and the company is made up of about 7 employees. We hold meetings both in person, as well as weekly Skype calls on Monday nights with the entire company.
As a Sports Technology Intern, some of my responsibilities include creating data visualizations for clients using Tableau, designing and testing surveys for optimal functionality of our proprietary algorithm, updating and adding data specs into the CMS, researching new and relevant technology for possible integration, and managing some of the company’s social media pages. Most recently, I have been collaborating with another Temple MIS intern to pioneer an ice hockey branch for the company. We have designed our own survey and implemented it into the CMS. I have also been responsible for creating/managing a new branch of social media to promote our project.
Through my internship, I have been able to apply a lot of my skills that I have learned from the MIS program. I was able to apply my skills with Tableau in order to create various dashboards and visualizations. I have also been able to apply a lot of data cleaning and analytical skills. Additionally, my experiences with the MIS 3535 project management class helped me to plan and run an expansion project from the company. Interning with Bquipped has been an excellent experience, and I look forward to applying the skills I learned with them in my future.
