Part-time MIS internship – Tokio Marine North America Services
Tokio Marine North America Services
Access Management & Support Intern
August 24, 2015-December 14, 2015 (to Present)
Tokio Marine North America Services (TMNAS) is a shared services company that assists insurance companies in areas such as Information Technology, Actuarial, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Legal, Internal Audit, and Facilities. The Tokio Marine organization originated in Japan over a century ago, providing insurance to maritime professionals. The company has spread internationally, now with offices also located in India and all across the United States. Tokio Marine is currently partnered with Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) and the First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH). The home office for the entire Tokio Marine North America branch is located nearby in Bala Cynwyd, PA, where I worked this past summer.
Last summer, I worked only in a Service Desk intern position and was given tasks that, although important to the business functions and educational, were rather mundane. A lot of work was just spreadsheets and cross referencing databases. However, in my second stint with TMNAS throughout the summer and into the Fall 2015 semester (working part-time, an average of 22.5 hours per week around classes), my role expanded to the Level 2 Access Management & Support intern role. With the extra experience and familiarity with the systems under my belt, my managers put me in a better position to expand my knowledge further than last summer and more was asked from me to get projects completed by deadlines. The company’s service desk moved from Texas to Costa Rica, which consisted of me creating 30 new accounts for the new consultants and then assisting with converting and revising the Knowledge Article database for them to reference. Another project was helping other teams from our company’s building into a neighboring building, setting up monitors and work spaces. Other tasks also included remoting into a customers machines, installing programs, and troubleshooting for users.
