Information Systems Integration
A course that tied up many aspects of the MIS curriculum within one class. Heavy emphasis on working within a team to develop an IT solution using the Agile methodology.
Lead Global Digital Projects
A project management course that revolved around managing a team of engineers to complete a major project. This course really helped to understand the time management and decision-making skills necessary for a project manager, especially when managing a project that you may not have a deep personal understanding of.
Digital Solutions Studio
A course focused on business analysis and understanding client needs. This class really taught students how to elicit specific requirements for client projects and how to accurately incorporate them into the project.
Data Analytics
A class focused on understanding data management and analytics. In addition to giving a baseline understanding of data analysis, the class also heavily emphasized learning the SQL language through MySQL.
My selected courses (in addition to others not mentioned) have prepared me for a role in utilize IT for business benefits. In particular, Digital Solutions Studio, Lead Global Digital Projects, and Information Systems Integration all heavily emphasized working with outside clients to develop a solution to a problem or need. Digital Solutions Studio and another course, Application Integration Evaluation, involved working with a startup company as the primary client. This provided a real-world example of how IT works in business. It is because of these courses that I have a solid foundation for a career in project management, business analysis, or consulting.
