IT Intern

Information about the organization (e.g., type, size, location, specific division/department in which you are employed)
AmerisourceBergen, the largest employer in Pennsylvania, is a pharmaceutical distribution company headquartered in Chesterbrook, PA. It is currently listed at #12 in the Fortune 500 with a revenue of approximately $153,144 million. I worked in Continuous Improvement and Process Governance, a division of the IT Department located at the Chesterbrook headquarters.

Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks)
My role was to serve as a full-time member of the CIPG team for the IT department for the duration of my internship. In this role, I assisted with the creation of documentation and instructional material for IT tools within the company, helped to facilitate workshops with various associates in different departments throughout the company, assisted with teaching and documenting Lean Six Sigma training courses, and created data visualizations for various projects across numerous company locations.

Examples of projects (e.g., list the projects you worked on and what you accomplished)
Company Conference Room Improvement Survey: Created a survey using SurveyMonkey sent out to 4,000 full-time employees across 4 offices in 3 states and analyzed the results to determine improvements and additions that can be make to company conference rooms and the process of booking them. This analysis was then visualized for management to be read and understood more easily.

Instructional Manuals: Manuals and and quick reference cards were created to help associates understand how to use company tools, such as ServiceNow and SharePoint. Instructions were also created for various project estimation techniques and Lean Six Sigma topics.

Lean Six Sigma Workshops: Organized and facilitated workshops for departments that would apply Lean Six Sigma techniques in order to capture, analyze, and improve the different business processes that they followed. This included recording data using Excel and creating process maps using Visio.

What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this internship in the context of specific courses).
The bulk of the work during this internship involved numerous techniques covered in Digital Solutions Studio. Some topics that were immediately applicable were methods for interviewing stakeholders, process mapping, developing entity relationship diagrams, and working in a team to develop a solution for a project sponsor. During this internship, I was able to take these techniques and use them on a deeper level in a real world setting with actual consequences.

Additionally, I was able to use my coursework in Data Analytics during this internship. Specifically, data analysis and visualization using Microsoft Excel was done frequently over the course of the internship. Successfully performing these actions required an understanding of what data is and how to gain insights from it, which I obtained in Data Analytics.
