Distributed data technology is a technology that stores big data and helps display the data in an organized fashion. The data will be distributed into many machines for businesses to access the data at a better rate than on one machine. Using multiple machines helps update with data since a company does not need to update a machine they are already using. Instead they only need to add another machine to hold the new data. This helps save on costs since companies no longer will pay for the downtime an update will take. The distribution also saves cost on waiting and searching for the data. There are many technologies that will help a company sort through the data, store the data, and present the data. These technologies help process the data into large clusters to help retrieve what is needed for businesses.

Distributed data technology is related to what we have learned in class through the presentation of data and the processing of large data. This is a technology that helps sort through data that is a lot larger than what we used in class. We learned about clusters and creating them in SAS. The clusters for us were relatively smaller than what many other technologies would be processing. Technologies like Hadoop can process, “large amounts of data in parallel across clusters of tightly connected low-cost computers for quick results.” Doing this quickly is extremely important in the business setting and something we struggled with in class when working on SAS. The cloud based program would tend to get slow when our class was all working on it at the same time.

This technology has been used by sports teams to increase their revenue on tickets and merchandise sales. Teams like the Orlando Magic have used this process by studying the resale ticket prices in order to price their tickets better. They also have predicted season ticket holders and retaining the ones they have. While also studying concession and merchandise sales within the stadium. Since they started this process their season ticket purchases have grown to 14,200.
