Opportunity Knocks: Wisdom From Recent Grads on Jobs & Internships was hosted by MLCC TEN (Temple University) as a career development event focused on helping students understand the current job market and career growth in tech. The event began with a conference-style presentation, where speakers used a PowerPoint to highlight available job opportunities, detailing roles currently open and the skills employers are looking for. This provided valuable insight into the hiring landscape and what companies expect from early-career professionals.
After the presentation, we moved into breakout rooms, where we had the opportunity to engage directly with professionals who are excelling in their careers or have recently been promoted in tech roles. These individuals shared their personal experiences, challenges, and strategies for success, emphasizing that staying curious and continuously learning is key to growth in a technology-driven field. They spoke about the importance of adapting to new technologies, seeking mentorship, and maintaining a positive attitude, as these qualities help professionals advance in their roles.
This event was especially meaningful to me as I prepare to enter the tech industry and recently applied to Vanguard. Hearing firsthand from professionals about their career journeys gave me a clearer understanding of what to expect and how to approach the learning process in my first role. Their advice reinforced the importance of embracing challenges, continuously upskilling, and staying engaged in professional development, all of which align with my career goals as I move forward in the tech space.
