Vibecoding: How ANYONE Can Turn Daily Routines into Scalable Systems

The AI/ML workshop “Vibecoding: How ANYONE Can Turn Daily Routines into Scalable Systems,” led by Keith Gutierrez from Temple’s MIS Department, was one of the most engaging and insightful professional development experiences I’ve had. I’ve known about about the concept of vibecoding for a while, but seeing it demonstrated so effectively brought it to life. The way it lets people without deep programming backgrounds transform everyday routines into their own custom tools through prompts alone is wonderful. Instead of seeing software development as something reserved for coders, Keith framed it as a creative and design-driven process that anyone can learn to approach with the right mindset. Throughout the session, Keith shared how he used AI tools to solve real-world problems in his own ventures. He demonstrated how he implemented DAX formulas in a Power BI dashboard for his vending machine business after feeding AI all the necessary information, and how he integrated a chatbot into his website to handle leads automatically. The highlight of the workshop was his walkthrough of a complete app he built: a flashcard-based visual schedule for neurodivergent children, inspired by his daughter. Watching him move through the full app lifecycle, from the initial concept all the way to deployment, made the whole process, both the vibecoding and app development, seem approachable and meaningful. Keith emphasized that successful vibecoding requires thinking like a product manager, knowing what you want, experimenting through trial and error, and refining based on feedback. He compared this approach to legendary producer Rick Rubin, who, despite lacking technical skills, relies entirely on his taste and creative judgment to shape music into something remarkable. The presentation also featured quotes from top tech leaders highlighting how AI is becoming central to programming and business operations, underscoring how rapidly the field is evolving and how crucial adaptability has become. What also stood out was the energy of the session itself. Keith’s enthusiasm and humor created a genuinely positive atmosphere. I left the workshop feeling inspired to experiment with AI tools myself and to approach problem-solving with creativity.
