Work Experience
Actuarial Internship
I spent the summer of 2014 interning at Hannover Re’s office in Orlando, Florida. I was placed in the Financial Solution Department, working on various projects both independently and in collaboration with other members of the department. I gained new understanding of the insurance industry by dealing directly with reinsurance treaties and projecting future fees based on both original contracts and previously developed models. I also developed skills with Visual Basic while automating the financial reporting process on a coinsurance deal in order to reduce the manual workload for the rest of the actuarial and financial team.
Tutoring
I have several years of experience in tutoring. I began in high school tutoring algebra and pre-calculus one-on-one through the National Honor Society at Archbishop Ryan. I now tutor college-level mathematics up to Caluclus III and statistics for Temple’s Math and Science Resource Center. I lead small group and lecture reviews before midterm and final examinations, in addition to tutoring one-on-one all throughout the semester. My tutoring work has given me experience in technical communication about mathematics, especially with those for whom math is confusing or difficult.
Starbucks
I have been a cafe worker and barista since the summer of 2012, and have thoroughly enjoyed my customer service work. I cooperate effectively with a two to eight person team to maintain the store and fill orders. My food service work has taught me to communicate effectively and precisely. I’ve also learned to multi-task quickly while maintaining accuracy and focus.
